IOGP’s Americas Directorate engages with authorities, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders in North, Central and South America – setting the necessary conditions to enable the oil and gas industry to play an optimal role in contributing to the achievement of the energy transition.
We also build partnerships with trade associations (national, regional and international) and intergovernmental bodies to collectively act on specific initiatives in the region, facilitating advocacy activities for our industry.
Balancing Energy Transition and Productionpanel session
NRG Center Room: 306 – Date: 4thMay Time: 1400 – 1630
On Thursday 4thMay, Concetto Fischetti, IOPG Energy Transition Director, is speaking at theBalancing Energy Transition and Productionpanel session.
The panel will discuss strategies and technologies being considered now and in the near future to achieve the balance of net neutral hydrocarbon production. Topics such as LNG, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, and alternate fuels will be incorporated, and a case for eco-environmental investment.
If you would like to know more about our Energy Transition Directorate, how you can implementthe latest IOGP Energy Transition practices, or arrange a meeting with Concetto at OTC, please contact him oncf@iogp.org
Getting to zero fatalities
IOGP has a long history of working to improve health and safety in the industry and is committed to put an end to upstream fatalities in the workplace. Some of our key safety projects include life-saving rules, process safety fundamentals, aviation and land transport.
Life-saving rules
Between 2008 and 2017, 376 people lost their lives in fatal incidents that might have been prevented by following one of IOGP’s Life-Saving Rules.
Human performance
We are working with company management and HSE professionals to understand how Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems (HSEMS) can incorporate human factor issues.
Process safety fundamentals
Developed to support companies as they seek to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, fatal and high severity process safety events.
Start Work Checks
The Start Work Checks are recommended for companies who have launched, or are planning to launch, the Life-Saving Rules.
CCS, energy efficiency, electrification, flaring and venting, and hydrogen
Our Energy Transition Directorate is delivering the Association’s low carbon initiatives: flaring and venting, energy optimization, power generation & electrification, CCS, hydrogen, greenhouse gas management, measurement, and reporting.
Ipieca-IOGP Compendium of energy and GHG efficient technologies and practices
Recommended practices for measurement, monitoring, and verification plans associated with geologic storage of carbon dioxide
Guidelines for the design and operation of flare gas recovery systems
Recommended practices for electrification of oil and gas facilities
Gap analysis of standards and guides for carbon capture, transport, and storage
Helping the industry move forward on DE&I
We are working to create a unified voice across the sector advocating acceleration of progress toward workplaces with better performance on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). Our Workforce Energy Taskforce’s baseline study in 2022 investigated how to secure the necessary talent and skills to deliver secure, affordable, and lower carbon energy solutions for all and facilitate digital transformation – while enabling an equitable energy transition. This report, intended for executives and senior leaders who set the culture for their organizations, outlines the findings from our research and the recommendations for the oil and gas industry to unite for a successful path forward to solving current and future talent shortages.

Industry alignment on emissions measurement and reduction
The industry is expected to address operational emissions and its carbon footprint. To accelerate the development and implementation of decarbonization solutions, standards, and best practices, such as electrification, Carbon Capture and Storage (CC(U)S), and hydrogen, we are working to increase industry collaboration in these areas.
Comparison of Methane Reporting Requirements
This report aims to help facilitate the understanding of differences in values of emission factors across countries.
Environmental management in the upstream oil and gas industry
Provides a detailed overview of environmental management practices in the upstream oil and gas industry.
Sustainability reporting guidance for the oil and gas industry
The Sustainability reporting guidance for the oil and gas industry is a key tool to help companies shape the structure and content of their sustainability reporting.
Reducing equipment cost and project schedule
With the tension and uncertainty in the supply and demand market, increasing price volatility, and the prospect of increased financing costs and carbon taxes, there is a need for further industry standardization and digitalization to decrease operational costs. Initiated by IOGP and endorsed by the World Economic Forum, JIP33 – Standardizing procurement specifications adds value by making supply chain faster and more efficient.
Health, Safety and Environmental data and benchmarking
IOGP has been collecting safety incident data from member companies since 1985 – giving the association the largest database of safety performance in the upstream oil and gas industry. Our data reports provide a basis for individual Member Companies to compare their performance, as well as demonstrating the industry’s wish for greater transparency concerning its activities.
Regulator engagement
We follow the political and legislative developments that will shape the future of our industry. This involves engaging decision-makers to explain our views, offer expertise, and provide data. Our aim is to help regulators and legislators draft rules and laws that are balanced and effective.
