Mike put himself through school by building homes and cabinets and catching rabbits at night for the dog race track. He has worked in the west Texas oilfield since childhood hauling drilling mud and later working on drilling rigs on west Texas ranches. In the 1980's he started his own oilfield service company and pump store in Mertzon, Texas servicing all of west Texas. Although the oilfield payed the bills, ranching was always in his heart. His grandfather and father were Texas horse breakers and Texas ranchers. They worked cattle and broke horses all over Texas and New Mexico as well as Florida, Wyoming and other ranching communities. Mike was a cowboy at an early age, he learned how to break horses, day work and shoe horses from his dad and grandfather. He started ranching for other people in his teens and eventually for himself in the 1980's. He has hung on through every crunch whether it be the oilfield or ranching business.
Mike served 20 years as Irion County Commissioner, he has a 32nd Masonic degree, he is a Shriner and he has been a top Ranch Real Estate producer since 2000. He started the anual west Texas Ranch Rodeo in 1998 and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Irion County Lions Club to give away in their senior scholarship award program. He was awarded "Friend of the FFA"for his many years of dedication to the FFA program. He currently sits on the board for the Irion County FFA.He is also aMember of the Texas Cattle Raiser's Association. He has a knack for business and for helping people. It is common practice for Mike to consult new Texas and New Mexico ranch owners after closing to help them get started in the ranching business. Helping people and ranching are Mike's greatest passions. He and his wife, Kathy and three grandsons reside on their ranch in Irion county.
